Dr Erica Bickerton
Dr Erica Bickerton graduated from the University of Surrey with first-class honours in Medical Microbiology in 2006. She then joined the Avian Endemic Viruses group at The Pirbright Institute and completed her PhD with the University of Warwick, graduating in 2011. Erica won the British Poultry Council Scholarship Award in 2010 for work carried out during her PhD and is now a senior Postdoctoral Research Scientist, acting Head of the Avian Endemic Viruses group.
Erica is a member of the Animal Welfare & Ethical Review Board (AWERB), the primary supervisor for two PhD students and was elected to the Microbiology Society virology division committee in 2014. Her current research utilises the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) reverse genetics system to elucidate the regions of the IBV genome involved in pathogenicity and next generation sequencing of virus populations for rational vaccine design.
